Men's Soccer Downed by Southwestern in Overtime

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team lost their conference matchup with Southwestern 1-0 in overtime today, falling to 5-8 on the year and 2-4 in conference.

The Crusaders were without a goalkeeper this afternoon, with Gonzalo Pernas and Hayden Hampton both forced to leave Friday's game with Texas Lutheran due to injury.  Johnathon Coxon was tasked with protecting the goal on Friday and again this afternoon, and it nearly worked out for the battered Crusaders.  For 95 minutes, Coxon and the Crusaders were able to keep the Pirates from finding the back of the net, Coxon even recording nine saves on the day.  Chances were few and far between for UD, but the Herculean defensive effort saw regulartion end 0-0 despite the dominance of the Pirates who outshot the Crusaders 28-5.

But the Pirates finally got their reward in the first overtime period, netting the game winning goal in the 96th minute.  The Crusaders are on the outside, looking in, in terms of the postseason picture. Currently in sixth place in the SCAC, the Crusaders must win their final two coference games to have a shot at sneaking into the top four.
