Overtime Win Makes Hoffmann All-Time Wins Leader

KERRVILLE, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer program came from behind to defeat Schreiner University in 2-1 in double-overtime this evening.

The Crusaders withstood an onslaught by the Mountaineers, who outshot UD 30-7 in the match.  Goncalo Pernas was called into action on numerous occasions, racking up 11 saves.  It took nearly 50 minutes for the first goal of the game, as Mason Lubbe put the Mountaineers up 1-0 early in the second half.  Andre Brkic was able to tie it up, scoring the equalizer in the last five minutes to send the game to overtime.

Having just let a last weeks fixture with Colorado College slip through their fingers, the Crusaders were determined to get the result this time out.  Fate was on their side, as Schreiner played nearly 10 minutes of overtime down a man after Zaaron Gonzalez was shown his second yellow.  In the end, a Schreiner own goal decided the match, with the Crusaders taking home the win after 105 minutes of play.

The win gave head coach David Hoffmann 161 wins in his career as a Crusader, making him the winningest head coach in UD's history.  Hoffmann joined the University of Dallas in 2003, his team now 5-5 in the midst of his 19th campaign.  In addition to most career wins, he also holds program records for winning percentage in a season (.921; 17-1-1, 2007), wins in a season (17), unbeaten streak at home (33 games; 2005-2008), consecutive wins (10), most goals (84), most assists (73), and most shutouts in a season (10).
