IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team battled University of Wisconsin-Superior on Sunday afternoon. UW-Superior (2-0) scored two early goals in the first half to take the early lead. The Yellowjackets took that lead into halftime after their keeper made three saves. Both goalies held their ground in the second half, until UW-Superior punched another goal across in the 82nd minute.
Dallas did not stop fighting, as Nicholas Opsahl (Boerne, Texas) set up Chima Ogueri (Garland, Texas) perfectly with a nice ball to the middle of the box. Ogueri made a nice move to beat the goalie to put UD (1-1) on the board in the 89th minute. Time was not on the Crusaders side at this point, as UW-Superior gathered up the win.
On just its second shot of the game UW-Superior broke the scoreless tie when Blake Perry set up Felix Blick nicely as he was able to beat the keeper right. A minute and a half later Perry then found some space in the box and scored the second goal of the game for the Yellowjackets. UD had four more shot opportunities, but were unable to convert.
In the second half, both teams had solid shots on goal, but the keepers kept everything out of the net. Dallas kept pounding on the offensive attack as time ticked down. Ogueri then broke through the defense and beat the keeper to put Dallas on the board late. The Yellowjackets eventually took the non-conference win after the final seconds ticked down.
Both teams took 13 shots on the afternoon. Dallas took nine of its shots in the second half. UW-Superior won the corner kicks battle 8-1 and 27 total fouls were called in the contest. Caleb Strange (Argyle, Texas) made two saves on the day playing all 90 minutes in goal. Chase Reynolds (Southlake, Texas) and Ogueri both led Dallas with three shots attempted. Hunter Haughland (Bixby, Okla.) and Carlo Scarmardo (Copper Canyon, Texas) each had two shot attempts each. Opsahl dished out his first collegiate assist on the Dallas goal.
