Men's Soccer Hampton Earns UD Scholar-Athlete 3rd Consecutive Year

IRVING, Texas - Trae Hampton (Paducah, Ky.) won the annual University of Dallas Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award for the third straight academic year. Boasting a cumulative grade-point average of 3.982 GPA, Hampton majors in Biochemistry with a concentration in Spanish, Hampton is the third student-athlete since its inception in 1983-84 to receive the accolade all three years eligible. Theresa Smart last managed the feat from 2008-2011. Hampton intends to study his doctorate at Texas A&M University in Biochemistry.  

Hampton lettered three seasons with the men's soccer team, posting three goals and four assists for 10 points over that span of playing time. He is a four-year member of the program, and has garnered several academic accolades over his career, including the National Academic Team for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Fall Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll.

The Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award was first implemented in 1984 and given to Greg Roper, a current University of Dallas Associate Professor of English. Since the award's inception, there have been 19 different winners. The award is handed annually to the letter-winning varsity student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average; freshmen are not eligible.
