Colorado College edge Crusaders in 2nd Half of Friday's Senior Day Game

IRVING, Texas – Two of the top three teams in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) closed the regular season out on Friday, with the University of Dallas falling 2-1 to Colorado College. After the teams played a scoreless half, the Tigers got in front with two goals within a three and half minute span. UD rallied back with scoring play in the 70th minute to reduce the deficit, but were unable to capture the equalizer.

Colorado College outshot UD 12-2 in the opening stanza and had a couple opportunities on goal. The Crusaders came up with three saves that frame, as the defense bended but did not break. All seven corner kicks for the Black and Gold came in this half, too.

The guests finally did break into the goal at the 57:54 minute mark by Sam Markin. John Schuler served the ball to Tim Huettel who headed the pass to Markin on a header that broke the tie. Early into the 62nd minute, Josh Raizner was positioned in the right spot to poke a previous shot that got blocked and bounced off the right post for an easy tapper.

A resilient Dallas team countered with nine of the final 10 shots after that 2-0 hole. A trio of shots were attempted in an eight-minute span with two saved by the Tigers' goalie Theo Hooker. Nate Riddle (Millsboro, Del.) did get a solid shot by Hooker on the left side of the goal for his third of the campaign. Tomas DePetris (Houston, Texas) came up with the assist.

The Crusaders also outshot CC 12-5 in the second half, and kept pouring on the attempts in the remaining 20 minutes. At the 72:19 mark, Luke Schwarz (Tucson, Ariz.) launched a far attempt that was gloved by Hooker but did fall back loosely before finally securing it. Hooker finished with six saves and the Tigers had one team save, as the Crusaders edged their foe 8-7 with shots on frame.

Prior to the match, seven Crusaders were recognized for "Senior Day." This group included: Schwarz, Jake Schnell (Austin, Texas), Joseph Quiray (Sugar Land, Texas), Joe Wiele (St. Louis, Mo.), Keaton Van Eck (Norman, Okla.), Trae Hampton (Paducah, Ky.), and Craig Nakutis (Jackson, Tenn.)

Both teams entered this matchup in with double-digit win totals. Colorado College improved to 11-4-3 overall and end conference play 9-2-3 for third place. The Crusaders fell to 12-3-2, but maintained their highest finish ever in the SCAC with a 10-2-2 mark for second seed.
