Haugland leads Men's Soccer with 5 Points over Schreiner

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team netted a pair of goals each half to knock off Schreiner University 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. Hunter Haugland (Bixby, Okla.) had a great game against the Mountaineers again with five points off two goals and an assist. He scored the game-winning goal back at Kerrville earlier this season in a 1-0 final.

Haugland punched his first goal to get the Crusaders on the board first 10 minutes into the contest. Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas) made the pass and Haugland was able to strike a shot that clanked at the right angle on the left post to bounce into the netting. Ciancone also garnered multiple points with his first goal of the season later in the opening stanza.

Dallas ballooned the edge to 3-0 out of the half thanks to Haugland at the 59:36 minute mark. Brady McNamara (San Antonio, Texas) earned his first collegiate point with the assist. Haugland did attempt a game-high five shots, but only had the two on frame go in and was short of the hat trick.

Schreiner avoided the shutout on a goal by Allan Gonzalez with about 20 minutes left in the match. Despite possessing the ball more during the final stages of the game, UD held off the attack and Chase Reynolds (Southlake, Texas) deposited a late goal for his second on the home weekend. The goal helped the Crusaders tie a season-high, which was also at home on September 22nd versus Centenary College.

The victory gives the Crusaders as many total as in 2016, and improves them 7-2-2 overall with six matches remaining on the regular season. Dallas remains in second place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) standings, after No. 3 Trinity topped Colorado College on Sunday. The Crusaders have 20 points and clinched a spot for the SCAC Men's Soccer Tournament, which will be hosted by Dallas on November 3rd-5th.
