Trio of Men's Soccer Players make All-SCAC Teams
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – On Monday the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) announced the 2016 All-SCAC Men's Soccer Teams. A trio of players from the University of Dallas received mentions. Luke Schwarz (Tucson, Ariz.) and Sean Taylor (Austin, Texas) qualified for the All-SCAC 2nd Team and Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas) made All-SCAC Honorable Mention. Schwarz was an honorable mention in 2015, while Taylor and Ciancone each gain their first postseason conference accolades in their career.
Schwarz boasted personal-highs in points (17), goals (6), and assists (5). All three of those categories ranked atop of the team statistical categories. The junior was five-for-five in penalty kicks during the season, which included his latest being a golden goal at Southwestern University in extra regulation. That game winner earned weekly recognition on herosports.com, and helped the midfielder notch United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Player of the Week. Schwarz also shot 70.4 (19-27) percent of his looks on goal. Additionally, he was named to the SCAC All-Tournament Team.
Taylor was a force on the back line for the Crusaders all season. The sophomore defender started all 19 matches the team played this year, and helped in five shutouts. He was part of a defense that posted 1.16 goals against average. On the offensive side of the ball, Taylor managed a pair of assists. He also logged 12 shots and placed seven on frame.
Ciancone posted two goals and two assists for six points. He tied second on the team in shot attempts with 34. The sophomore tallied both his scoring plays in the first two contests of the campaign. He also added an assist in the second match that was a shutout against Hendrix College. Finally, the midfielder did tally an assist in what was the decisive goal at the time in an eventual 4-2 result over Texas Lutheran University.
