Own Goal down Men's Soccer at Centenary Sunday

SHREVEPORT, La. – The University of Dallas men's soccer team (7-8-2, 4-7-2 SCAC) allowed an own goal in the 67th minute and were unable to find the back of the next as Centenary College (5-12, 2-11 SCAC) prevailed 1-0 on Sunday. Dallas concludes its four-game road trip 1-2-1 overall with both setbacks occurring on own goals that happened consecutive Sundays.

The Crusaders held a slight advantage in the first half with nine shots compared to five by the home side. The first attempt by either side was at the 4:28 minute mark by Naseem Said (Pearland, Texas) in a save result. The Gents countered with the next pair of shots over the next several minutes before UD's Trae Hampton (Paducah, Ky.) kicked a shot wide at the 22nd. Within the final 15 minutes of the opening stanza, Dallas erupted with seven chances and six of those happing in that span. Only Andrew Ciancone's (Houston, Texas) look at the start of those save was on goal.

Coming out of the break in a 0-0 deadlock, the teams each posted a few shots and looked to break through. Dallas notched respective shots on goal by Garrett Hammer (Colleyville, Texas), Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas), Said, and Luke Schwarz (Tucson, Ariz.) from the 60:05 – 65:32 marks.

It was an own goal that started from a serve in by Centenary and ricocheted off a defender's header in the 67th minute that decided the match.

From that juncture, Centenary posted two more shots on frame in the next two minutes and UD only had one on target that came from a header by Hunter Haugland (Bixby, Okla.) in the last 19 seconds.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- Dallas outshot the Gents 19-11 with 10 coming in the second half. UD also doubled shots on goal with an 8-4 edge. Only three were kicked by Centenary.

- Individually the Crusaders were led by Schwarz with four shots. Hammer and Haugland followed with three. The trio all contributed one shot on goal.

- Said produced a perfect shot on goal percentage with both his looks being stopped by the opponent's goalkeeper.

- Tino Gamueda (Lubbock, Texas) made three saves in a complete match between the posts.

- Centenary outdid UD in corner kicks 7-4. After being outdone 3-2 in the first, Centenary posted a 5-1 edge in the last 45 minutes.

- A trio of Gents posted a pair of shots including: Colin Maloney, Scott Halper, and Gabe Rodriguez.

- Rylan Whan (5-12) earned the win with a clean sheet in 90 minutes and stopped all eight shots faced.

Dallas returns home for its final regular season match next Saturday, October 29 versus Colorado College. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. Prior to the game, seven seniors will be recognized for senior day.
