THE LEAD
The University of Dallas men's soccer team (6-6-1, 3-5-1 SCAC) begin a stretch of four road matches against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponents. The road stint starts Friday at Southwestern University and will head to Texas Lutheran University on Sunday. Kickoff for the tilts are at 5 p.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.
Dallas went 0-1-1 last weekend to conclude a 2-3-1 home stand. The Crusaders are 1-2 in true road matches this season and 3-3 in games away from the friendly confines. UD sits in 4th place in the SCAC standings with 10 points. They are five points behind Austin College and one point ahead of Sunday's opponent.
UD NOTES
- Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas) maintains his lead on the team in goals and points with six and 14, respectively. He also is the team leader in shot attempts with 25.
- Luke Schwarz (Tucson, Ariz.) boasts the most assists (3) on the squad with 24 altogether. The junior has accumulated a career-high 13 points and has logged 12 in victories by UD.
- Behind Schwarz's five goals, Chima Ogueri (Garland, Texas) rounds out the top three spots in goals with a trio. He is also third on the team in points with eight.
- Six Crusaders boast a pair of assists as seven members have multiple helpers in the campaign statistics.
- Tino Gameuda (Lubbock, Texas) has notched 41 saves in 1,131:19 minutes between the posts.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES
Southwestern University (7-6, 6-3 SCAC) enters the weekend in third place with 18 points in the conference standings. The Pirates fell by a goal (2-1) last time out at Austin College. Prior to that, Southwestern won two straight including an overtime win at Schreiner and 2-0 shutout at Centenary College. After playing five matches in a row away, SU closes the fall schedule with four in a row and five-of-six at Georgetown, Texas. The Pirates are 4-2 at home this season.
Offensively, Jake Swonke leads the team with five goals and 13 points. He is the lone player in double figures for points. Christian Lopez has tallied three goals with as many assists for nine points. Rounding out the top three offensively is Carlos Huntley-Jimenez with a team-high four assists and eight points. The goalkeeping is mostly done by Ryan Benner at 982:27 minutes. He has logged 50 saves.
In the earlier match this season, Dallas fell 3-2 in overtime. The home team got a goal late in the contest by Holdridge but Swonke netted the golden goal in the 93rd minute to secure the triumph. Last year at SU's home field, the Crusaders prevailed 3-0. Holdridge, Stephen Gahan (Vancouver, Wash.) and Naseem Said (Pearland, Texas) all netted goals. Said amassed three points with an assist on Gahan's netter. Gamueda posted a clean sheet with five saves.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Texas Lutheran University (3-10, 3-6 SCAC) got a 1-0 victory last Sunday at Centenary to break a five-game slide. This included a pair of setbacks in double overtime. The Bulldogs host No. 20 Colorado College on Friday to begin a five-game home stand that wraps up the regular season. TLU is 2-2 on its home turf this year.
Eight individuals have scored for the Bulldogs this year. David Ching is the lone player with an assist to go with the scoring result and leads the squad with three points. Four additional individuals have been involved in passes to earn an assist, as the team comes in with five total. Victor Rodriguez and Brendan Soto have nearly split equal 1209:40 in the goalie position. Soto has a little more time with 620:40 minutes and two of the team's three victory goalie decisions. He has made 31 saves against 87 shots faced. Rodriguez has 27 saves against 77 faced in 589:00 minutes.
In the earlier matchup this season, Dallas prevailed 4-2. Jake Schnell (Austin, Texas) managed his first collegiate goals while Holdridge chipped in three points – including a goal. Schwarz secured the two-goal win with a penalty kick. Last year at Seguin, Dallas fell 1-0 on a goal in the 21st minute by Isaac Lopez.
