No. 1 Trinity pulls past Men's Soccer in 2nd Half on Sunday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team (6-6-1, 3-5-1 SCAC) competed with top ranked Trinity University (13-0, 9-0 SCAC) to a scoreless halftime, but were topped 4-0 eventually on Sunday. The four goals by the Tigers in the second stanza kept them unblemished on the campaign. UD moved to 0-2 on the season series against them and concluded the big home stand 2-3-1.

It was a stalemate through the first 45 minutes, as Trinity held a 5-1 advantage in shot attempts. The visitors broke through with 11 in the second half and were able to pull away throughout the stretch.

Trinity's game-winning goal came from Austin Michaelis right out of the break in the 47th minute. Brady Johnston was credited the assist. Johnston was able to create a pass that led to another goal as Daniel Ruano tickled the twine with one at the 55:58 minute mark.

Just under 20 minutes eclipsed before the Tigers pushed the lead to three on a goal by Kellen Reid. Michaelis earned his third point of the contest with an assist. Finally, at the 85:55 minute mark, Vetle Masvaer Halle was able to put the final goal in as Donnovan Smith got the helper.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- Dallas was outshot 11-3.

- The one shot on goal was from Luke Schwarz (Tucson, Ariz.). Trae Hampton (Paducah, Ky.) and Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas) each had an attempt for UD.

- Corner kicks were nearly even with the Tigers edging the home side 5-4. Both teams earned three in the second half.

- Tino Gamueda (Lubbock, Texas) allowed three goals against five shots in the start. He worked 77:03 minutes before being lifted for Jacob Chimento (St. Louis, Mo.).

- Ruano paced the squads with a game-high five shots and two on goal. Michaelis contributed four shots and placed two on goal as the duo contributed to four of the six on target. The remaining two shots on frame found the back of netting.

- Todd Whittaker (13-0) started in goal and made a save in 76:57 minutes. Chris Morrish finished the match between the pipes.

UP NEXT

Dallas is on the road the next two weekends, which encompasses four conference tilts. The first of this stretch is October 14 at Southwestern University. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
