Holdridge Late Goal forces OT but not Enough to get by Southwestern

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team (4-4, 1-3 SCAC) scored the equalizer by Barton Holdridge's (Fort Worth, Texas) quick touch at the 86:29 minute mark to force a 2-2 tie in regulation. However, Southwestern University (5-3, 4-0 SCAC) prevailed in the extra frame as Jake Swonke netted the golden goal early in the 93rd minute to lift the guests up 3-2.

Playing in front of the home crowd for the second time this season, the Crusaders jump ahead at the 1:21 minute mark with a goal by Chima Ogueri (Garland, Texas). The freshman scored his second goal of the season by finishing a shot that was created off a flip throw in by Eric Haigh (Frisco, Texas).

The Pirates evened the score with a goal occurring less than a minute before intermission. Alex Newell made the header and David Arellano dished the assist on a through ball. Southwestern attempted more shots in the second stanza 10-6 after being outdone by four shots in the first 45 minutes. Phillip Nelson pushed SU in front 2-1 at the 72:34 minute mark. Carlos Huntley-Jimenez created the play on the left side of the field and got the assist.

Dallas did not back down and took advantage of a free kick center that Sean Taylor (Austin, Texas) placed on the ground that was able to get a touch off Holdridge's foot and beat the SU keeper right. The senior's third goal of the season forced the second straight overtime match between the programs at Crusader Field.

QUOTABLE:

"Tough to lose at home in OT to a conference opponent. I like that we came back to tie the game. We have to stay focused throughout the match. We cannot have moments where we switch off. The teams in the SCAC are too good to give them those moments of opportunity." - Head Coach David Hoffmann on the team's performance Friday.
