Men's Soccer drops 1st Contest in 2016 at Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Dallas men's soccer team (3-1, 0-1 SCAC) were blanked and dropped the first contest of 2016 in a 2-0 result at Colorado College on Friday. This match marked the opener of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).

The Tigers netted both goals in the first half and carried that edge through the remainder of the contest. Caden Mackenzie produced the eventual game winner at the 16:56 minute mark. He had a run down the left side and slipped the ball into the lower right pocket of the goal. Joel Frykholm was credited with the assist. That margin held until the 37th minute when Tim Huettel directed the other goal for the home team.

Both teams matched their own individual shot totals per frame, with Colorado College outdoing the road squad 10-6 overall. Dallas targeted four of its total attempts on goal, but were unable to break past current SCAC Defensive Player of the Week Theo Hooker (2-0-1). He nabbed four saves.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- Five individuals logged shots for the Crusaders. Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas) notched a pair overall with one on goal. The remainder of the quartet putting one on goal included: Luke Schwarz (Tucson, Ariz.), Ben Mannings (Bath, England), and Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas).

- Tino Gamueda (3-1) was saddled with his first setback in 90 minutes of action.

- Colorado College edged in corner kicks 9-1. This included seven in opening stanza.

- Mackenzie led CC in shots with three and Frykholm added two.

QUOTABLE

"We came into the match a bit disjointed. The defense held up to the pressure and kept most of the attack away from goal; hence, the high volume of corners conceded, but low shot totals. We had easily identifiable errors that contributed to the goals conceded. We had a breakdown in midfield defense on the first goal and the second was a poor place to give a penalty. We failed to execute set piece defending. The Second Half we adjusted and played roughly level." –Head Coach David Hoffmann on his team's performance.
