Men's Soccer improves to 3-0; 2nd Half the difference in Sunday's Win

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The University of Dallas men's soccer team (3-0) remained unblemished after utilizing a three-goal second half to move to a 4-1 win on Sunday over Rhodes College (0-2) in the University of Ozarks Tournament. After beginning the season with two matches that resulted in Dallas boasting 3-0 leads at halftime, Sunday's 1-0 lead on Rhodes College provided a closer story. Additionally, the Crusaders' lone goal in the opening stanza occurred on an own goal to the Lynx at the 30:57 minute mark.

About 20 minutes into the second half, Dallas had its first individual scorer with senior Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas) completing a header off a free kick from junior Luke Schwarz (Tucson, Ariz.).

The Lynx countered with a header of their own as Will Lawler tickled the twine at the 74:46 minute mark. Mark Robinson received the assist after tossing a nice throw-in to create the sequence. It also narrowed the deficit to one goal, which was the first time this year UD faced a close margin this late in a contest.

The Crusaders found their rhythm as sophomore John Langsfeld increased the edge to 3-1 a few minutes later. Freshman Garrett Hammer got an assist and finished the weekend with five points over the two matches. Schwarz put the game away for good with a penalty kick at the 89:57 mark.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- Holdridge posted his second goal of the season, which ties him with the team lead with Schwarz (also had second goal in game), Hammer, and sophomore Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas).

- Freshman Hunter Haugland led UD with three individual shots and one of those on goal. Junior Jake Schnell, freshman Chima Ogueri, and Holdridge also logged multi-shot contests.

- Senior Tino Gamueda (Lubbock, Texas) allowed a goal and made three saves in his first game to work the full 90 minutes.

- Dallas outdid RC in shots 13-7 overall and 9-2 in the second frame. Seven of those nine second half shots were on goal, as Rhodes goalkeeper Patrick Wilkerson (0-2) made four of his five saves during that span.

- The Crusaders won the battle in corner kicks 8-3 and took six in the second half.

- Dallas has a 3-0 record to start the season for the third time in the past four. In 2013 and '14, the Crusaders started 4-0.

QUOTABLE

"We did not see enough of the ball the first 20 minutes, but we made a few changes on the fly and then got things adjusted tactically at halftime. The balance of attack was positive again today. Three different scorers provided goals in Holdridge, Langsfeld, and Schwarz, and the own goal was heavily influenced." –Head Coach David Hoffmann on his team's play Sunday
