Men's Soccer Freshmen lead way in Saturday's Shutout against Hendrix

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The University of Dallas men's soccer team (2-0) produced a trio of first half goals for the second straight contest to edge Hendrix College (0-1) on Saturday afternoon in the University of the Ozarks Tournament. It was the first shutout on the young campaign for the Crusaders, and two rookies provided plenty of offense with three goals and seven points combined.

Chima Ogueri (Garland, Texas) got UD on the board with 1:32 ticked off the clock for his first collegiate goal of his career. He added his second season assist on the next scoring play in the 31st minute. Ogueri connected with Garrett Hammer (Colleyville, Texas), who picked up both the first personal and team multi-goal match in 2016.

Hammer punched the ball over the head of HC's keeper for the lone scoring play of the second stanza. Sophomore Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas) tallied a goal between Hammer's pair and lifted Dallas to a 3-0 advantage in the 35th minute.

The four goals were one shy of Thursday's season opener total and matched the goal differential margin of that tilt. A quartet of scoring results proved more than enough, as the Warriors only landed one of their six shots on goal. UD senior Tino Gamueda (Lubbock, Texas) turned the only shot he faced away and improved to 2-0 after 79:46 minutes in the net.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- The Crusaders doubled Hendrix's shot attempts 12-6. UD fired eight shots on goal.

- Freshman Hunter Haugland (Bixby, Okla.) and Hammer each made three shots, while Ciancone and Ogueri wrapped up the other multi-shot members in navy and white.

- Corner kicks were nearly even, with Dallas edging the Warriors 4-3.

- Hendrix's Nathan Myers (0-1) allowed four goals and managed three saves in 75:46 minutes. Josh Robbins surrendered the other goal in his only shot faced.

- There was a combined 13 fouls in this match with Hendrix being called for eight.

QUOTABLE

"Given we played, traveled, and played I was concerned we might be sluggish, but the boys started quickly. A second game with balanced scoring – three different contributors. I am very impressed with freshmen production. With two projected starters out with injury, Ogueri, Haugland, and Hammer have stepped in and provided goals and assists." –Head Coach David Hoffmann on Saturday's win.
