Men's Soccer holds onto 2-1 win on Friday against Texas Lutheran University

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team (7-6-1, 6-3-1 SCAC) netted a pair of goals in the first half and would hold off a Texas Lutheran University (8-5, 5-5 SCAC) second half push to win 2-1 on Friday afternoon. Dallas ended a two-game slide, and improved to 6-1 at home including a 5-0 mark within league play. It is also the squad's sixth one-goal victory on the campaign.

A penalty kick by sophomore Luke Schwarz (Tucson, Ariz.) would successfully lift the Crusaders to a 1-0. His first goal of the season occurred at the 30:09 minute mark.

As the opening stanza was about to come to a close in the final minute, Dallas boasted the momentum as Schwarz connected on a cross from the right side of the field to sophomore Naseem Said (Pearland, Texas) deep in the box. Said knocked his second goal of the season by getting it just out of the reach of a diving keeper to the right side.

With the second goal of the contest, UD carried a 2-0 advantage into intermission as that most recent scoring play occurred with 40 seconds until the halftime buzzer.

After holding a 6-1 edge in shots for the first 45 minutes, Texas Lutheran would play more even with the home team in the second half. The only damage for the Bulldogs was the second penalty kick of the match by Alejandro Martinez in the 52nd minute.

With the margin cut in half, the Dallas defense would keep TLU off the scoreboard the remainder of the frame, with six shots given up. Junior Tino Gamueda (Lubbock, Texas) picked up his seventh win of the season, and nabbed two of his three saves in the game in the second half.

His counterpart Brendan Soto (8-5) took the loss in the setback after making seven stops against nine faced through a 90 minute contest between the posts.

Dallas finished with a 14-8 shot advantage and also totaled nine shots on goal compared to eight. Junior Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas) would tie a game-high three shots. A trio of Crusaders also had multiple shot results including: junior Stephen Gahan (Vancouver, Wash.), senior Colton Allen (Roanoke, Texas), and freshman Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas). Junior Ben Mannings (Bath, England) and sophomore A.J. Zaugg (Dallas, Texas) added shots on goal in their lone shot of the match.

David Ching paced the Bulldogs with three shots and two shots on goal, while Martinez chipped in two shots. Texas Lutheran would edge the Crusaders in corner kicks 5-4 and were whistled for being offside on five occasions in the game. Three occurred in the second half and two in the final 10 minutes of play.
