No. 10 Trinity too much for Men's Soccer Friday

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – In a matchup between two of the top three teams in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), the University of Dallas men's soccer team (6-5-1, 5-2-1 SCAC) fell 5-0 at No. 10 Trinity University (10-2, 6-2 SCAC) on Friday evening. The setback ends a three-match winning streak for the Crusaders and is the second time this year to fall in league action. Both occurred on road where UD is 1-2-1 in against SCAC foes.

Coming off a 1-0 victory earlier this year at Irving, Texas, Dallas was unable limit TU's offense for the second time this fall. It was a close match throughout the majority of the contest, as Trinity netted four of its five goals in the second half.

Just under 10 minutes from the opening kickoff, the Tigers would break a scoreless tie on a goal by Emmanuel Raranje from Daniel Ruano on the assist. UD managed to keep things there on the top-25 ranked opponent, with the halftime score reflecting a 1-0 deficit.

Ruano would be involved on the next scoring play and tied a game-high three points with Murray Fraser. Ruano's goal came at the 56:57 minute mark and doubled Trinity's edge. The home squad was able to pour the offense on in the final 20 minutes, as Tom Carwile, Callum Squires, and Fraser all scored respectively, to build a five-goal difference.

Christian Sakshaug would dish out two assists on the second and third goals of the game.

The Crusaders were outshot 17-9, but were unable to place a shot on goal in 90 minutes. Trinity also held an edge in corner kicks 13-3, and was called for five off-sides compared to none by UD.

Freshman Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas) and junior Stephan Gahan (Vancouver, Wash.) tallied multiple shot results for Dallas with two apiece. Juniors Tommy Byrd (Mansfield, Texas), Ben Mannings (Bath, England), sophomores Naseem Said (Pearland, Texas) and A.J. Zaugg (Dallas, Texas), and senior Colton Allen (Roanoke, Texas) also kicked shot attempts.

Getting saddled with the loss was junior Tino Gamueda (Lubbock, Texas) after allowing three goals and making two saves. He played 73:01 minutes and freshman Jacob Chimento (St. Louis, Mo.) played between the posts in the remaining 16:59.

Carwile paced all participants with a game-high four saves and kicked two on target. TU made eight shots on goal as a team. Kellen Reid, Sakshaug, and Ruano logged multi-shot attempts for the Tigers in the team's fifth win in a row. This comes since Trinity had consecutive conference losses at Dallas and Colorado College last month.
