Three Second Half Goals propel Men's Soccer over Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team (4-4-1, 3-1-1 SCAC) compiled three goals in the second half, and were able to post its third shutout of the year in a 3-0 win at Southwestern University (2-8, 2-3 SCAC) on Sunday. The trio of goals marks a season-high for Dallas to kick as a team, and is the team's first road conference win this season. UD is in second place in the rankings through five matches.

It was also the Crusadres second win in the all-time series against Southwestern and first at Georgetown, Texas. The last time Dallas won was in a 1-0 final on October 28, 2011.

Both squads played nearly even in the first stanza, as the Crusaders posted a 7-6 advantage in shot attempts. Neither team found the back of the net and the intermission scoreboard reflected 0-0.

At the 54:50 minute mark, junior Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas) would net the first and game-deciding goal for Dallas. It was the team-leader's fifth goal of the season, and also marks a career-high for the forward. Sophomores Luke Schwarz (Tucson, Ariz.) and Jake Schnell (Austin, Texas) teamed up for the double assist in the sequence.

Things remained back-and-forth until the Crusaders doubled the gap on a goal from junior Stephen Gahan (Vancouver, Wash.) at the 66:52 mark. Gahan's netter was his first of his career and gives him four points on the season – all in three of the past four games. Sophomore Naseem Said (Pearland, Texas) garnered his first point of the year on an assist.

The forward/midfielder would be involved on the next scoring result in the 74th minute. His goal lifted him to a game-high three points and etched UD's highest scoring match of the fall. Fellow teammate Trae Hampton (Paducah, Ky.) dished the assist, his second on the campaign.

Junior Tino Gamueda (Lubbock, Texas) earned the win (4-4-1) with a 90 minute effort in his third shutout in the past four times UD has been on the field. Gamueda picked up five saves against five shots faced, including turning away a penalty kick by Christian Lopez at the 31:23 mark. That save kept the match scoreless at the time. The keeper had four saves in the first frame.

Lopez paced Southwestern with three of the team's 12 shots. Also notching multi-shot games for the Pirates included: Rory McCullough, Brett Berdinsky, and Jacob Buckley with two apiece. Taking the loss in goal was Ryan Benner. The goalie blocked two saves, and kept Dallas off the board in a scoreless first half.

Inside the box, both teams duplicated shot totals in each half with UD holding a 7-6 edge in each. Five shots on goal was the final tally for both squads, and Southwestern earned five corner kicks compared to three by the Navy and White.
