Dallas falls to No. 17 Wartburg College on Saturday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Dallas men's soccer team (1-3-1) fell 3-0 on Saturday afternoon versus No. 17 Wartburg College (2-1-1) at host site, Colorado College. The setback concludes the Crusaders' three-game road trip at 0-2-1.

After playing to a stalemate through intermission, the Knights mustered a scoring barrage over the course of the second half to blank UD 3-0.

The scoring began on a goal by Paris Martins at the 53:54 minute mark with the assist from Zubeen Azari. Martins produced his second goal and team-leading fifth goal of the season with an unassisted scoring play in the 71st minute.

At the 86:31 point of regulation, Wartburg concluded the scoring with Ben Johnson tallying a netter from Peter Tran.

Dallas was only outshot by three in this outing, 11-8, and both squads attempted five shots even in the first stanza. The Crusaders would hold the edge in corner kicks 5-2, with three occurring in the first half.

Offensively, freshman Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas) paced the team with both of UD's shot on goals. He also led the Navy and White with three shots. Senior Colton Allen (Roanoke, Texas) chipped in a multiple shot match with a trio of attempts. Junior Ben Mannings (Bath, England) and sophomore Sean Taylor (Austin, Texas) also kicked attempts for Dallas.

Junior Tino Gamueda (Lubbock, Texas) was saddled with the setback (1-3-1) through 75:52 minutes of work as the goalkeeper. He picked up four saves, including three in the first half.

Martins claimed a game-high four shots, with three shots on goal. Johnson, the Knights' other scoring participant would contribute the other multi-shot contest with two. Austin Boyke (2-1-1) saved both of his shots faced in 90 minutes to hold the shutout.

Dallas returns home next Friday, September 18 for another Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match versus Trinity University. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. The Crusaders conclude the two-game home slate on Sept. 20 versus Schreiner University.
