First Half sinks Men's Soccer on Sunday at Concordia

AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team (1-2) dropped a 4-2 contest on Sunday against Concordia University (3-0). Dallas could not overcome a three-goal deficit at intermission, as junior Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas) rattled both the Crusaders' scoring plays in the final 16 minutes to cut the final in half.

The Tornados found the back of the net early as Fabian Billings completed a deflection off Farauz Abbaszadeh at the 8:13 minute mark. Still within the ninth minute, Diego Outerial, who earned a game-high five points by the end of the match, knocked in a penalty kick to double Concordia's advantage.

Outerial would be involved in the home team's next pair of goals, with his 20-yard attempt landing on target at the 31:39 mark, and assisted Labastida's goal at the 73:40 to give Concordia a 4-0 lead.

Holdridge countered for Dallas about a minute after CU's largest advantage of the day with a swift kick netting the ball between the keeper's legs. The junior forward added his second header of the year off a cross pass from freshman Eric Haigh (Frisco, Texas) for the assist in the 85th minute. Haigh's helper on the goal gave him his first collegiate point.

Leading the Crusaders with three shot attempts was Holdridge, who is the first to double-digits with 11 through a trio of games. His three goals on the young campaign place the Fort Worth, Texas, native one behind his career high in his rookie year.

Dallas would be outshot 20-8, but did put six of its attempts on goal. The Tornados and UD split the total number of shots in half with 10 and four, respectively, in both the first and second frame. Concordia held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks, and would launch five in the latter stanza.

The Crusaders had opportunities in the opening half, as the team was a perfect four-of-four with shots being on goal. Nick Martin, the goalie for Concordia, picked up his entire quartet of saves in that stretch. He picked up the win in 90 minutes.

Starting in goal for UD was junior Tino Gamueda (Lubbock, Texas), who allowed four goals to match amount of saves he garnered in 78:57 minutes. Freshman Jacob Chimento (St. Louis, Mo.) made his debut and blocked his first career save.
