Allen scores 1st Goal of Season; Not enough for Men's Soccer against Pacific Lutheran

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team (0-1) fell Tuesday in the season-opener versus Pacific Lutheran University (1-0) by final of 2-1. The Crusaders would score in the second half, on a shot from senior Colton Allen (Roanoke, Texas) that occurred from the right side of the box and crossed to the bottom-lower corner of the net.

Allen's first goal of the campaign builds off his career-high eight last season, and brings his total to nine overall. His goal came at the 49:44 minute mark and cut the deficit in half after Pacific Lutheran led 2-0 at halftime.

For the Lutes, Eddie Na would put the team on the scoreboard early in the match at the 4:56 mark on a goal from Joel Frykholm. Things would be back-and-forth with the home squad gaining possession more as the first half progressed. PLU's Joe Sammartino doubled the advantage for the vistiors on a goal with less than six minutes remaining in the stanza. Jordan Downing connected on the pass for the assist in that scoring sequence.

Both teams finished with 15 shots, and with the Crusaders attempting nine in the first half. Each team also tallied four corner kicks.

Dallas had a few good looks in the final five minutes of regulation, both by junior Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas); who led the Navy and White with five shots and two on goal. The goalkeeper for Pacific Lutheran, Mike Arguello, would collect three saves, and his final one at the 87:19 point from the Holdridge's header attempt kept the score at 2-1.

Other players with multi-shot efforts for UD were sophomore A.J. Zaugg (Dallas, Texas) and Allen. Freshman Eric Haigh (Frisco, Texas) also landed his lone shot on goal to conclude the team's four overall. Junior Tino Gamueda (Lubbock, Texas) picked up four saves in a complete 90-minute effort in the net for the Crusaders.
