JON MISKIN OF UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a senior from Little Rock, Ark., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending December 14, 2014.

A three-year member of the men's soccer program, Miskin has dedicated most of his time at UD for the Seminary program by becoming a seminarian at Holy Trinity Seminary.

Miskin is majoring in Philosophy and Letters, which places more focus on theology courses offered within the Philosophy program.

In the community the midfielder volunteers once a week at Children's Hospital as a chaplain. "Through hospital ministry this year I have really learned a lot about myself and in my ministry as I look forward to the priesthood in the Roman Catholic Church," Miskin explained. "The hospital has really taught me what it means to walk with someone through their struggles."

Being a seminarian student, time management is a key for the senior and Miskin has been able to balance both his priority of academics and still been committed to working with the men's soccer team during games and at practices.

"I have really enjoyed my time here on the University of Dallas men's soccer team, because it helped give me an opportunity to go to school and get a great education and go to seminary; but mainly being a soccer athlete has provided a real community," the three-year Little Rock, Arkansas product stated.

Miskin concludes, "Being on the soccer field with all these players, I have been able to step up and lead in a couple ways kind of behind the scenes in more of a spiritual sense. I am glad to be that kind of aspect to the team, and going forward obviously I will continue being a spiritual guide to other peoples' lives, so it really has taught me a lot of how to relate to others and I look forward to doing that later in the priesthood."

The Character & Community award, established prior to the 2009-10 academic year, is an effort by the SCAC to honor the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.
