IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team (4-1) dropped its first contest of the 2014 season, by a 1-0 score in overtime against Howard Payne University (1-5) on Sunday afternoon at Crusader Field.

The Crusaders were outshot 21-17, but had opportunities throughout the affair and could not notch the necessary goal. Junior forward Colton Allen (Roanoke, Texas) led the offense for the navy and white with a game-high six shots, half of them on target. Following the forward was senior midfielder Matthew Wise (Portland, Ore.) with four attempts and one on goal.

Defending Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore forward Ben Mannings (Bath, England) pounded two of his three total shots on goal as well. Senior midfielder Nathan Nwaeze (Mansfield, Texas) rounded out the quartet in the multi-shot category with three shots too.

Dallas held the edge on shots in the first half, garnering 10 overall by intermission. Howard Payne only had four at that point, but shifted the momentum with 15 in the second frame.

Despite each squad's efforts, neither could break into the net in this match until Shay Pate broke through at the 95:19 mark. It was one of a team-high three shots that came off his golden foot and lifted the Yellow Jackets for the first time on the campaign (1-5).

Tracer Moore and Dominic Gillies also matched Shay's team-best, three shots for HPU. Eight players tallied multi-shot results for the visitors.
