Kenneth Waterbury selected as SCAC Character & Community Male 'Student Athlete of the Week'

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - KENNETH WATERBURY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending Nov. 25, 2012.

Waterbury, a sophomore defender on the Crusaders' men's soccer team who hails from Glendale, Ariz., appeared in 11 games for head coach David Hoffmann during the 2012 season.

Away from the pitch, Waterbury has been teaching kindergarten and first grade Sunday school every weekend at his local church.

"I've been trying to fill the children with as much love and information about Jesus Christ as possible," Waterbury said. "It has been such a rewarding experience because working with them has shown me what it looks like to have a complete child like faith."

In addition to teaching Sunday school, Waterbury has been involved in a mentorship program that partners Christian leaders with underprivileged kids in South Dallas.

The mentorship program helps to motivate kids to finish high school and to go forward from that point into a career, and, in the process, creates a lasting friendship and relationship from elementary school through high school between the Christian leaders and the less-priviledged kids that the program services.

Waterbury has also made an impact in the community through his soccer knowledge and abilities.

"I've been able to help train and coach youth soccer players and teams at both the competitive and the recreational level," Waterbury said. "The experience has been great because it has allowed me to use my ability as a soccer player to give back to other kids who have similar goals that I had when I was the same age."
