Men's Soccer achieves 2-1 victory over Austin College, as Wise's two scores help tackle 'Roos

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team (5-5, 2-3 SCAC) returned to .500 with a 2-1 victory over visiting Austin College (AC) on Sunday afternoon at Crusader Field.

Guillermo Allande gave AC (6-5-2, 2-3 SCAC) the early advantage, netting a goal in the third-minute from a Caleb Sherer assist.

Roughly 17 minutes later, sophomore co-captain and midfielder Matthew Wise (Portland, Ore.) helped Dallas level the score, depositing his first of two goals.

The 20:26-tally was assisted by sophomore midfielder Juan Hernandez-Reyes (The Woodlands, Texas).

Before the half ended, Wise found twine again in what proved the game-winner.

At 43:30, he beat AC goalkeeper Andrew Celio with a header played on a 35-yard bending free-kick from freshman midfielder Colton Allen (Roanoke, Texas).

The contest was tightly officiated throughout, as Dallas drew 19 fouls to AC's 18. Dallas was also flagged 16 instances for offisides thanks in part to a pinching style of defense by the 'Roos. AC was whistled one time for offsides.

Coach Hoffmann's bunch was able to overcome the chippiness, staving off the 'Roos en route to a one-goal triumph.

Senior goalkeeper James Kerin (East Greenwich, R.I.) fended off five shots on goal, two of which came in the second half. The Crusaders registered eight shots on goal to AC's six, while the 'Roos fired 25 shots to Dallas' 19.

Riding a two-game winning streak, Dallas sits fourth in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Along with Austin College and Southwestern University, the Crusaders hold a 2-3 mark in conference.

Next opponent:

Saturday, Oct. 13, brings Colorado College to Irving, Texas. Dallas looks to avenge a (Sept. 28) 2-1 loss to the Tigers in a 4 p.m. affair at Crusader Field.
