Men's Soccer victorious on 'Senior Day'

On Sunday afternoon, the University of Dallas men's soccer team (7-8) was on a mission to win against Colorado College, as it was their final home game of the season, and thus, 'Senior Day'.

Prior to the match, career accomplishments of the Crusaders' senior class were detailed. Then, head coach David Hoffmann thanked his seniors one by one, as they were introduced to an adoring crowd.

The players of reference include Ryan Meske (Niwot, Colo./Niwot H.S.), Sam Sheetz (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Denis J. O'Connell H.S.), Kurtis Baker (Roanoke, Texas/Northwest H.S., Rafael Hernandez (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep), Phil Conley (Palatine, Ill./Palatine H.S.), Robert Ospina and Matt Spenla.

Dallas had a solid game offensively, tallying 13 shots and two goals. The first score was by junior midfielder Michael Chapman (Madison, Miss./St. Joseph Catholic School) in the 18th-minute off an assist from sophomore midfielder/defender Amir Nail (Houston, Texas/St. Pius X H.S).

Senior co-captain midfielder/forward Ryan Meske netted the game's final goal in the 50th minute. Meske was assisted by freshman midfielder Adam Kaftan (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep).

Dallas failed to capitalize on several deep attacks on the day, but were able to notch six shots on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Sam Carter (Chicago, Ill.) kept Colorado College off the board, saving all five of their shots on goal; he was assisted by the Crusader defense who blocked several shots as well. Carter now has three shutouts in the last four matches.

UD will next be in action when they play at Howard Payne University on Tuesday, Oct. 26. at 4:00 p.m.
