Men's Soccer defeated by St. Thomas (Texas)

Led onto the field for the first time this season by bagpiper Sara Bowes, a University of Dallas junior, the UD men's soccer team (3-8) played host to the University of St. Thomas Celts, Friday afternoon.

In the 25-minute mark, St. Thomas notched the match's first goal when forward Rafael Bustos netted what proved to be the game winner off a Nick Boras assist.

The match was chippy throughout, as the teams combined for 21 fouls, with two of three yellow cards being assessed to St. Thomas.

Despite being outshot 20-7 by St. Thomas, UD was competitive for the match's duration. St. Thomas' Jad El-Masri would however ice the game when he scored twice in the final 20 minutes, propelling his team to the 3-0 victory.

Accounting for the Crusaders' shots were freshman midfielder Adam Kaftan (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep), junior midfielder Michael Chapman (Madison, Miss./St. Joseph Catholic School), junior defender Derek Yoder (Houston, Texas/Tomball H.S.), junior defender Preston Waltrip (Derby, Kan./Derby H.S.), sophmore midfielder Billy Stofer (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia H.S.) and senior midfielder Rafael Hernandez (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep). Waltrip had UD's only shot on goal.

On Sunday, Oct. 10, UD will be in action when they take on Millsaps College. The game will start at 12:00 p.m. at Crusader Field.
