Men's Soccer slimed by Banana Slugs
On Saturday afternoon, the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs (6-2-3) soccer team defeated the University of Dallas Crusaders (2-7) by a score of 5-1.
UC Santa Cruz came out firing in the first half, scoring a goal at the 19-minute, 29-minute, 34-minute and 39-minute mark. Cody Pillion accounted for two of these scores, and had three shots on goal for the match.
A bright spot on the day for UD was an Amir Nail (Houston, Texas/St. Pius X H.S.) goal in the 49th minute, which ruined the shutout bid for the Banana Slugs. UC Santa Cruz would tack on their final goal in the 60th minute.
An eye-opening statistic from this match is the fact UD's nine shots equaled the number of shots on goal UC Santa Cruz notched.
UD has a chance to atone for this lopsided affair, and get back on the winning track on Sunday, Oct. 3, when they take on La Sierra University at 4:00 p.m.
