UD Men's Soccer Loses Close Match in Season Opener
The Dallas men's soccer team opened the season at home against the Kangaroos of Austin College, and struck first for the 1-0 going in to the half against rival Austin College. Freshman midfielder Adam Kaftan (Omaha, NE/Creighton Prep) netted a goal 6:52 into his UD debut to give UD the early lead. 13 minutes into the second frame the kangaroos bounced back, courtesy of a strike from Jason Campbell. Fellow Roo Jason Repogle was credited with the solo assist. Less than two minutes later Austin's Chris Melton scored the go ahead goal for the Roos, who utilized the wind to their advantage.
Dallas freshman goalkeeper Anthony Zaragoza (El Paso, TX/Franklin City H.S) converted on 9 of 11 save opportunities in the loss. Senior midfielder Ryan Meske (Niwot, CO/Niwot H.S.) led the team in shots with 3 while senior midfielder Sam Sheetz (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Denis J. O'Connell H.S.) recorded the teams only other shot on net besides Kaftan's first half goal.
The Crusaders' next match is scheduled for September 7th at 8:00pm when they travel to meet LeTourneau University.
