Mens Soccer Team Ties in Double Overtime
The UD men’s soccer team tied the Milwaukee School of
Engineering Raiders 1-1 today after playing through two overtime
periods. The 2-4-2 Crusaders have tied twice this season after
playing Millikin to a 1-1 draw.
Colorado native and junior midfielder/forward Ryan Meske (Niwot,
CO/Niwot H.S.) scored the UD goal just under nine minutes into the
game off an assist from junior defender Kurtis Baker (Roanoke,
TX/Northwest H.S.). After going into the break up by one, the
Raiders matched the Crusaders with a goal of their own to knot the
score up for good. UD had their opportunities and managed 17 shots
to the Raider’s 19, but the respective defenses and keepers
held the offenses at bay.
Taking shots for UD were senior midfielder and co-captain Matt
Stamper (Bentonville, AR/Bentonville H.S.), senior midfielder and
co-captain Aaron Tucker (Keller, TX/Birdville H.S.), senior
midfielder Mike McIlhon (San Diego, CA/St. Augustine H.S.), senior
midfielder Rafael Hernandez (Dallas, TX/Jesuit College Prep),
sophomore defender Preston Waltrip (Derby, KS/Derby H.S.) freshman
midfielder Billy Stofer (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia H.S.), freshman
defender/midfielder Amir Nail (Houston, TX/St. Pius X H.S.),
freshman defender Joey Killion (Houston, TX/Katy H.S.), and
freshman forward Garrett Johnson (Lewisville, TX/Lewisville H.S.).
Senior goalie Paul Stauduhar (Longwood, FL/Lake Mary H.S.) had 6
saves in the 110 minute double overtime game.
The junior varsity team will play the next game against Austin
College on September 30 at 5:30pm on Crusader Field. The 2-4-2
varsity will get back into action and look to get back into the win
column against the Southwestern University Pirates in Georgetown,
TX. The Sunday, October 4 game is scheduled to kick off at 2:00pm.
