Crusaders Defeat Huntingdon for First Win 2019

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team won their season opener with Huntingdon College 14-11 Saturday afternoon, snapping a two-year long losing streak in the process.

The Hawks came out firing, scoring the opening goal barely 30 seconds into the match.  But the Crusaders answered right back with two goals in a 10-second span to reclaim the lead.  By the end of the first quarter, they had taken a 4-1 lead thanks to goals by Joseph Roberts and Matthew Reynolds.  Dallas fanned their spark into a flame, scoring a total of eight unanswered goals to take an 8-1 lead not even five minutes into the second quarter.  Though the Hawks were able to answer back with three goals in three minutes, it was still the Crusaders who looked firmly in control.

The two sides traded blows for much of the third period, though Dallas was able to reestablish their seven-goal lead for a time.  They would go into the fourth quarter leading 13-8.  The painfully shorthanded Crusaders started to lose some steam in the fourth quarter, allowing the Hawks to score three unanswered goals.  With the momentum, Huntingdon found themselves a man up in the last minute of the game after slashing penalty and very well could have turned the game on a dime.  But the Crusaders were able to kill the penalty and secure their first win since 2019.

Nico Hofheins led all players five goals and four assists.  Tyler Boden was stellar in the circle, with a 16-24 face-off record, and Sam Dixon recorded 15 saves for the Crusaders between the pipes.
