Southwestern Edges Men's Lacrosse on Saturday

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team was defeated 25-6 at Southwestern University on Saturday afternoon. Dallas (3-8) gained two goals in the first three quarters, but the Pirates (9-6) were too strong offensively with 17 first half scores. This included 11 in the second quarter.

Everett Barger and Benjamin Libby scored for SU within the first three minutes of play. Dallas' Tyler Smith (Snoqualmie, Wash.) put in UD's first goal at 10:55 to make it a one-goal difference.

The Pirates countered with Barber and Zane Abbott scoring within 10 seconds of play a couple moments later. After another goal for the Pirates with around five minutes left, Austin Gibbons (St. Charles, Ill.) scored on a man-up situation to slice the deficit to 5-2. Southwestern scored the last goal of the frame and proceeded to put in the next five goals to push the margin out of reach.

Gibbons secured a hat trick with consecutive goals at 9:00 and 8:21 for the lone goals by UD in the second half. Tucker Jameson (Mechanicsville, Md.) and Jake Frederick (Coppell, Texas) scored the other times for the Crusaders – both in the third. Joseph Kilmer (Rockville, Md.) dished two assists and collected three ground balls. Frederick added four ground balls

Dallas was unable to gather more than three shots in a quarter, as it was outdone 48-9 by the Pirates. The hosts also held a 38-12 edge on ground balls. Dallas committed 17 turnovers compared to 13 by the Pirates.

Libby, Barger, Jared Welsh, and Kai Knight-Turcan scored hat tricks to lead the scoring with three goals apiece. Barger was tops in points (7) thanks to four assists, while Libby and Knight-Turca each chipped in three assists apiece. Achilles Armendariz achieved 10 ground balls, and Abbott was a perfect 14-for-14 in the faceoff circle, as Southwestern won 25-out-of-28 attempts.
