Crusaders drop Sunday's Match to Chatham University; Smith Becomes Career Leader in Points

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team was unable to keep pace with a strong Chatham University team that won 20-8 on Sunday. It was the first setback at home for the Crusaders (2-3), who were outshot 79-24.

The Cougars (4-0) kept their unblemished record intact by using a 7-0 run to start the game less than 10 minutes into action. Kyle Rullan started the outburst at 12:54 and then had his second on a man-up goal. His last followed a string of three goals by Robert Hedlund that give him a hat trick in just over four minutes. Addakin Thomas and Hedlund, who garnered his fifth point, concluded that run.

Austin Gibbons (St. Charles, Ill.) and Jake Frederick (Coppell, Texas) got UD on the board in the first quarter with a goal apiece. Dallas also only had four shots the entire stanza, and half found the back of the cage. The Crusaders kept their counter going with two goals in the second quarter to slash the margin to 7-4. Joshua McClendon (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Tucker Jameson (Mechanicsville, Md.) scored respectively at 12:27 and 9:52.

Chatham didn't allow things to get any closer, as the guests rattled off the next nine goals over two frames. This included six to lift the team to a 13-4 halftime advantage.

Jameson found two goals in the last four minutes of the third to end the Dallas offensive drought. His first goal of that sequence was assisted by Tyler Smith (Snoqualmie, Wash.), who broke the school record for career points with 58. The junior also tallied his second helper on the campaign to move into a tie for second all-time with Stephen Joseph with 18.

Chasen Reynolds (Fallbrook, Calif.) recorded points on the two Dallas goals in the last quarter with a goal and assist to Frederick.

Jameson finished with his fourth hat trick on the season and third straight to lead the scoring. Frederick had two. Dallas finished with 13 shots on goal.

Cole Griffin (Lucas, Texas) made a career-high 25 saves and recorded a team-high eight ground balls in 60 minutes between the pipes. His total saves ranks 4th in a match for the Crusaders.

Chatham had 11 players tick a mark in the scoring column led by Hedlund's four. Rullan followed with three, and Adam Bleess, Quentin Clarke, Michael Porreca, and Thomas had two apiece.

The Cougars were 24-for-33 in clear attempts, recorded a 67-35 edge in ground balls, and only committed 20 turnovers while Dallas made 36. Alec Vissotski was 24-for-26 on the faceoffs, with the team winning 27 of the 32 chances.

Cameron Smith earned the win in goal by allowing six with four saves in 45 minutes. Gregory Hensley worked the fourth quarter as goalkeeper and had the team's fifth save.
