HOW IT HAPPENED

The Spartans raced out the gate with Berry-Wingate winning a faceoff and groundball to lead to a five-second goal that made it 1-0. Dubuque posted four goals to build an early lead just over midway through the first quarter. Penalvert had the second home team score, and then Jake Olsen followed by completing a goal on the pass from Michael Julllus. Berry-Wingate completed the 4-0 stretch with his second goal.

Smith rattled in the Crusaders first goal of the day at 5:25. Ben Blessard (Falls Church, Va.) delivered the assist to give him four in the past two days. Blessard was coming off his career-match of six points on Saturday at Carroll University.

Two more late goals in the final minute of action gave Dubuque a 6-1 advantage. Jango scored from Tyson Svoboda on the first one and then Penalvert secured the team's second multi-goal collector in the last 30 seconds.

A trio of goals started the next 15-minute period, and ballooned the advantage for the Spartans to eight (9-1). Early snapped the streak with his first goal after being held without one in the last two Dallas matches. Smith provided the helper and the guests trailed 9-2 with just over nine minutes before intermission.

Dubuque kept the momentum the rest of the way. The lead grew to as high as 15-2 by the end of the third quarter.

Early started the Dallas fourth off with the first goal by either side. His one attempt that went into the back of the cage had followed a wide shot six seconds prior from Bogar Trout III (Tecumseh, Mich.). The Crusaders ended up taking seven shots in that last 15-minute span after having not gotten one off in the entire third and two overall at that juncture.
