OPENING FACEOFF

The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team wraps up the home portion of its 2017 schedule this Friday and Sunday with Calvin College (4 p.m.) and Piedmont College (1 p.m.), respectively. Dallas is 2-6 on the year and coming off a 21-1 setback last Sunday at Huntingdon College.


UD NOTES

- Peter Early (San Antonio, Texas) scored the lone goal last match to extend his streak to five games. His point streak is six matches in a row, and he has tallied one in all but one game this spring.

- Early is the team leader in goals (13), assists (6), and points (19). He has posted team-highs in shot attempts with 40 and 27 on cage for a 67.5 shot on goal percentage.

- Ben Blessard (Falls Church, Va.) follows with seven goals and four assists.

- Tyler Smith (Snoqualmie, Wash.) rounds out the top three on offense with five goals and assists. He has garnered a team-high 57 groundballs and has won 50.4 percent (60-119) on the faceoff.

- Christian Lopez (Las Vegas, Nev.) has played all 480 minutes in the goalkeeper position. According to the most recent stats, Lopez ranked 5th in total saves (115) and saves-per-game (16.43).

- Dallas has scored a team-best 13 goals in third quarters on the campaign. Opponents have only rattled home 15. The third stanza is also the team's best period for shots (56) and shots on goal (34).

SENIOR DAY

Prior to Sunday's match against Piedmont, the Crusaders will recognize two players graduating this May. Nicholas Baeza (San Antonio, Texas) and Jacob Tom (Waukesha, Wis.) have both been anchors on the defense the previous three seasons since the Dallas men's lacrosse program began playing after the cancelled season in 2014.


A LOOK AT THE OPPONENTS

(Calvin College)

-The Knights are 2-4 this season.

- They are coming off a 19-10 setback at Southwestern University on Wednesday.

- Prior to that match, the Knights prevailed in their lone home game 21-10 over Northland College.

- Calvin is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and wraps up the month of March with the third straight road game after UD's next week at Hope. After that, it plays five-of-eight home contests.

- Calvin is averaging 9.17 goals-per-game and 29.8 shots-per-game.

- Max Foster and Michael Winkler lead the offense in scoring with 11 goals apiece.

- Joel Schaefer is tied for second with Winkler in points with 12. He has eight goals and four assists to follow the top players on the team for second.

- Chris Griffin ranks atop the squad in points (15) with eight goals and seven assists (team-high). Griffin Sparing is the other scorer with seven goals.

- Mitchell Caldwell amassed 360 minutes in goal and notched 43 saves.

- This will be the first meeting between the programs.

(Piedmont College)

- The Lions are 3-6 on the season and have dropped their last three.

- The most recent match was at Ferrum College in a 10-3 final.

- On Tuesday, the Lions were scheduled to play at Hendrix College, but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather.

- The trip through the southern states bring Piedmont to Texas, where it plays at the other NCAA Division III program in the state, Southwestern University, on Friday.

- Jeremy Kohn paces the attack with 23 goals. He is even in points (23) with Preston Quarles, who has a team-leading 10 assists.

- Chris Hadlow is tied second with Quarles in goals with 13. He is one helper shy of the team leader with nine.

- A trio of players complete six double-digit scorers with: Britt Kennedy, Brady Jenks, and Josh Cobbina at 11, 11, and 10, respectively.

- After the top sextet of double figure scorers, the rest of the team has combined for three goals.

- Zach Czulada has posted the majority of time in goal with nine starts and 446:34 minutes. He has 119 saves (3rd NCAA), which means two of the top-five goalkeepers in saves nationally will be featured.

- These programs have met once historically, which was not too far ago. The match was in 2015 at Demorest, Georgia, where Piedmont won 22-3. Baeza did have one of UD's goals

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

As the calendar flips to April, Dallas will conclude the remainder of the season on the road with four matches. The stretch begins Apr. 1-2 at Carroll University and University of Dubuque. Both opponents played the Crusaders in 2016.
