Men's Lacrosse drops Road Match at Huntingdon Sunday
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team dropped a road contest on Sunday to Huntingdon College. The Hawks (6-6) scored five goals in each of the first three quarters en route to a 21-1 final over Dallas (2-6), who has dropped its past three.
NOTABLE STATISTICS
(Individual Notes)
- Peter Early (San Antonio, Texas) scored the lone goal for Dallas to increase his team-high to 13. He has found the back of the cage in the last five straight matches.
- Toby Zanini (Boston, Mass.) and Ben Blessard (Falls Church, Va.) respectively put out the most shots at five and four. All but two from each of them were on goal.
- Tyler Smith (Snoqualmie, Wash.) garnered a game-high 11 groundballs and was 9-for-24 in faceoffs.
- Christian Lopez (Las Vegas, Nev.) made 13 saves in the setback.
- The Hawks were led in scoring by Austin Ohlinger and Brandon Scheele with four goals apiece.
- 10 different individuals notched a point in the scoring column, with five players besides the two mentioned above reaching multiple goals with two each.
- Stephen Dan came in for Matt Murphy (6-6) in the goalkeeper position and secured eight saves against nine faced in 39:10.

- Dallas was 9-of-13 in successfully clearing the ball, but the Hawks only had one failed (19-20).
- The Crusaders made two more saves (13-11). Huntingdon boasted 40 more shots (58-18). 34 of those shots for the home team were on cage.
- Huntingdon also picked up 19 more groundballs (41-22) and forced UD into 17 turnovers while making 10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks were consistent, matching their final number of goals every 15-minute period to carry a large lead on the afternoon. Scheele started the offense with a goal on an assist from Jackson Schrampfer exactly one minute into the game. Three and a half minutes later, Sam Hitt dished a pass to Matt Stading to make it 2-0. Kendrick Ballard tallied back-to-back goals to double the margin and Austen Saucier rounded out the goals that frame with 1:37 left.
It was a similar script in the second quarter, although it did take three minutes before Huntingdon got on the board. Zach Barnhill took a shot that reached the back of the net on a helper from Schrampfer. Four more goals capped a string of 10 unanswered goals.
Early ended that run in the closing seconds for the Crusaders' only goal of the game. It occurred with 10 ticks left.
The remainder of the game remained all Hawks as five more goals stretched to lead to 15-1 after three. In the final stanza, Lopez had a quarter-best five saves, but the opposition did net six goals to complete the wide margin.
