Men's Lacrosse falls on Senior Day versus Benedictine College

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team (3-11) was unable to slow Benedictine College (5-7) on Sunday afternoon in a 16-6 setback. After trailing by two in the first quarter, the Crusaders allowed six straight goals, including the first five of Benedictine's second quarter 6-1 edge to build a comfortable lead.

Remy Dujakovich scored at the 13:07 minute mark and assisted the next goal by Kyle Tomc to give the Ravens a 2-0 edge less than five minutes underway. Senior Alex Ziolkowski (Ann Arbor, Mich.) countered at the 9:43 mark for his 15th goal of the season. His point streak has now extended to six games in a row. Dujakovich closed the frame out in the last 1:23 minutes on his third point to propel a 3-1 guest advantage.

Dallas trailed 9-2 at halftime. Freshman Ben Blessard (Falls Church, Va.) ended the scoring run for the Ravens with his ninth goal of the season. Classmate Peter Early (San Antonio, Texas) set the sequence up with a pass for the assist.

Senior Matthew Cyr (St. Louis, Mo.) got the Crusader faithful fired up with a goal hitting the back of the cage 13 seconds into the third. Early cut the deficit to five (9-4) exactly three minutes later on his team-leading 17th goal.

Benedictine was unfazed and responded with two goals in the quarter to negate the narrowed effort. A five-goal fifth completed the scoring in a win that spoiled "Senior Day." for a quartet of Dallas members. Ryan Murphy (Yorba Linda, Calif.), Richard Pierce (San Antonio, Texas), Cyr, and Ziolkowski were recognized prior to the start of Sunday's tilt.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- Cyr notched his second hat trick this season, and Early matched in points with three. The rookie dished a pair of assists.

- Ziolkowski led the team with 10 shots and tied Early with five on cage. Early and Cyr each contributed seven shots.

- Dallas went 11-for-26 in Faceoffs won, and Ziolkowski won all but one of the team's positive results.

- Murphy managed 20 saves for his seventh contest this season to eclipse that mark.

- Junior Jacob Tom (Waukesha, Wis.) set the single-game record for caused turnovers with six. 

- UD went 23-of-37 in successful clears. Other than a 5-for-12 in the final 15 minutes, Dallas only was unsuccessful three times or less the remainder of the frames. UD was edged 58-33 in groundballs.

- Benedictine was led offensively by Patrick Schmitt with five goals. Kyle Tomc garnered a hat trick. Daniel Lagenfeld, Brandon Boh, and Dujakovich each had multi-scoring performances.

- Boh finished second on the team with four points as he matched his goal total with a pair of assists.

- The Ravens totaled 53 shots with 36 on cage. Boh and Tomc compiled 11 shots apiece and Lagenfeld was a perfect seven-of-seven placing his on cage.

- Zach McGuff earned the win with 14 saves against 20 shots faced in 60 minutes.
