Men's Lacrosse falls to Southwestern University

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team (3-10) was defeated 21-2 on Saturday versus Southwestern University (7-8). The Pirates scored a pair of four-goal quarters in the opening half and had plenty of momentum to break a three-game slide. Dallas has now lost the past three.

Jared Welsh broke a scoreless game with his first goal just over two and a half minutes from the start. Jordan Riggs added another goal a minute later to double the edge. A nine minute scoring drought from both sides ended as Matt Zagurski netted a goal being up a man and 2:20 left until the first break. Sebastian Gualy completed the scoring with a goal at the three-second tick.

It was not the lone scoring sequence that occurred in the closing moments of a quarter. Senior Matthew Cyr (Ann Arbor, Texas) found the back of the cage with a second above the halftime buzzer. Classmate Alex Ziolkowski (Ann Arbor, Mich.) provided the assist. Ziolkowski also broke UD onto the scoreboard earlier that frame at the 13:09 mark. His 14th goal of the campaign ended a 5-0 Southwestern run, as the guests had a goal exactly 21 seconds prior by Matthew Montagne to start the quarter.

Dallas trailed 8-2 at intermission, but a 13-0 second stanza was enough to put the Navy and White away for the Pirates.
