Men's Lacrosse falls Monday to the Raiders

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team (3-8) dropped a 12-1 decision at Milwaukee School of Engineering (2-4) on Monday. The Crusaders allowed seven straight goals to the Raiders, including four in the first quarter.

Zach Markell netted a hat trick during that span, and Thomas Reid would dish assists on the first two MSOE scoring plays. In the second quarter, the home team added two more goals to display a 6-0 advantage at halftime.

Freshman Ben Blessard (Falls Church, Va.) ended the shutout bid on Dallas, and scored his eighth goal of his rookie campaign at the 9:18 mark in the third quarter. Senior Alex Ziolokowski (Ann Arbor, Wis.) was awarded the assist.

The Raiders would score the final five goals to maintain control of the momentum, with two of the final ones coming on power plays.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- Dallas was outshot 56-21, as the Raiders displayed a 25-10 edge with shots on cage.

- Senior Matthew Cyr (St. Louis, Mo.) led UD with five shots, while Ziolkowski and freshman Peter Early each had four.

- Ziolkowski had team-highs with three shots on goal and five groundballs. Dallas was outdone 37-23 as a team in the latter category.

- Senior Ryan Murphy (Yorba Linda, Calif.) notched 13 saves against 25 shots faced in 60 minutes between the pipes.

- Markell and Gustafson led the Raiders' offense with nine of the team's 12 goals. Both tied game-highs with five points apiece. Markell posted five goals and Gustafson chipped in four.

- The tandem attempted 15 and 14 shots, respectively. Oliver Winsor completed the trio of double-digit shooters with 10. He added a goal and assist in the win.

- Pat Collins worked 53:26 minutes in goal and collected seven saves against eight shots faced.

Dallas will play its final away match this season on a neutral site in Georgetown, Texas. Home of Southwestern University, the Crusaders take on Whittier College on April 1 at 5 p.m.
