Men's Lacrosse offense Unable to Connect against Dubuque

IRVING, Texas - Despite holding an edge on shot attempts, the University of Dallas men's lacrosse team (2-7) dropped an 8-3 decision on Monday to University of Dubuque (1-3). The Crusaders held a 31-27 advantage in that category, but a four-goal first quarter was enough to propel the guests over Dallas.

Michael Julius and Jacob Olsen got the Spartans ahead 2-0 within the first seven minutes of the opening quarter. Julius was able to end the scoreless match at the 13:05 mark and Olsen followed with around eight minutes until the first break. Julius also added an assist on the first of two Tyson Svoboda goals, which were scored with under three to play.

Senior Alex Ziolkowski (Ann Arbor, Mich.) had cut the deficit in half (2-1) with 3:30 on the clock. Freshman Peter Early (San Antonio, Texas) set the scoring play up with an assist.

Early in the second quarter, Julius scored the lone goal of that frame for Dubuque to push the margin 5-1. Dallas produced the final two goals before halftime to display a 5-3 difference on the scoreboard. Sophomore Joshua McClendon (Redondo Beach, Calif.) netted a man-up goal about two minutes after the Spartans had tallied a netter. Freshman Ryan Thie (Saint Paul, Minn.) scored the other goal.

The offense stalled after that for the Crusaders however. In the second half, the Navy and White were held scoreless despite 15 shots in the stanza. This included 11 in the final 15 minutes.
