Men's Lacrosse suffers Friday Loss to Franciscan University

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team (2-6) dropped a Friday afternoon match to Franciscan University (2-2). The Crusaders took an early 1-0 advantage, but allowed nine unanswered goals from the road team. They fell eventually 12-4.

Senior Matthew Cyr (St. Louis, Mo.) got the early goal for Dallas about five minutes into the contest. It was his third goal of the campaign at the time, and his first since picking up a pair in the season-opener at Dallas Baptist University.

A little under a minute later, Mark Hanlon for the Barons evened the scoreboard. He was not done, as he won the groundball off the faceoff and drove the field before placing the go-ahead goal with 9:06 minutes left in the quarter. Franciscan added another goal in the frame to lead 3-1.

Four more goals would be etched on the guest side of the board, and UD trailed 7-1 at intermission. Another pair of goals in the third quarter capped the 9-0 run for Franciscan.

Silencing the scoring streak was freshman Peter Early (San Antonio, Texas) in the fourth quarter. Nearly 17 minutes eclipsed between goals on either side in the game. Early extended his scoring streak to eight games with the netter.

After Franciscan countered with a goal, Early took advantage of a power play goal, and Cyr fired his second goal with just under two minutes remaining in regulation. UD had cut the deficit to six points (10-4), but the Barons returned the favor with two goals of their own. Paul Modzelewski dished assists on the final two scoring plays.
