Millsaps tops Men's Lacrosse Sunday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team fell 13-3 on Sunday afternoon to Millsaps College. It moved the Crusaders to 1-4 on the year, while Millsaps improved to 3-2. Big quarters in the first and third would be enough for the guests to pull away in this one.

Simon Sherman got the scoring quickly about two minutes into the game, and would add his second in a row a minute later. The scoring tally remained 2-0 for the majority of the opening quarter, but a pair of quick goals in the final 1:05 minutes by Garrett Perez and Sam Snyder sent UD in a 4-0 deficit.

The Crusaders broke the shutout five minutes into the second quarter, with senior Alex Ziolkowski (Ann Arbor, Mich.) connecting on a pass from classmate Matthew Cyr (St. Louis, Mo.). His fourth goal of the campaign cut the margin to four goals again, after MC's Sherman had netted a hat trick near the start of the period.

Both teams would trade goals later in the second, with Dallas receiving a scoring play from freshman Ben Blessard (Falls, Va.). It was his first goal since the season-opener at Dallas Baptist University and brings his total to three on the campaign.

At halftime, the Crusaders were down 6-2. That margin was as close as the home team would be, as the Majors rattled seven unanswered goals in the second half. Freshman Peter Early (San Antonio, Texas) kept his scoring streak intact at five games, and bolstered his team lead in goals (six) with one within the final 10 seconds of regulation.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- Ziolkowski and Early combined for 17 of the Crusaders' 30 shots. The duo attempted nine and eight, respectively, and shot on goal with six and five. Freshman Ryan Thie (Saint Paul, Minn.) and Blessard added four shots.

- Senior Ryan Murphy (Yorba Linda, Calif.) and freshman Jonah Torres-Swanson (Austin, Texas) led the team with four ground balls apiece. Dallas would be outdone 38-20 in that category.

- The Crusaders were 18-for-31 in successful clears, while Millsaps converted 20-of-26 in clears.

- Millsaps attempted 60 shots and placed half of them on target. The Majors went 11-for-19 in faceoffs, but Dallas won five of its eight in the second half.

- Murphy would make 17 saves against 30 shots faced in a complete game.

- His counterpart in the net for MC was Riley McLean. In 60 minutes, the winning keeper made 13 stops.

- Sherman led the team with four goals and dished three assists for a game-high seven points. Kyler Bibb, Jackson Barrett, and Perez each added two goals.
