Men's Lacrosse relishes road contest, dismisses Dordt College (Iowa) in neutral site game

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team (4-6) extended their impressive winning streak to three games by defeating Dordt College (Iowa) on Saturday, April 9, by a score of 12-4. This is the longest winning streak of the program's inaugural season.

Facing a 2-1 deficit entering the 2nd period, the Crusader men refocused and asserted their will over the Defenders. With a shot advantage of 49-18, it comes as no surprise that Dallas scored 11 goals to Dordt's two in the final three periods. Ground balls were also a high point for the young Crusader team, who possessed a 37-16 advantage in that area.

Once again, freshman Tony Lemos (Dana Point, Calif./JSerra H.S.) led the team in goals, amassing a game-high six scores. In his stellar freshman campaign, Lemos has netted 40 goals, to date, on 43-percent shooting. His offensive dominance against Dordt was aided by fellow freshman Joey Mullen (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood H.S.), who scored three goals and had two assists.

Brien Lank (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra H.S.) also contributed with two goals and an assist. Junior attack Stephen Joseph (Orange County, Calif./JSerra H.S.) rounded out the Crusader offensive output with a goal to add to his assist.

Perhaps most impressive in the victory was the complete control of the face-off circle by sophomore midfielder Chris Kerner (Stevensville, Md.), grabbing 14-of-19 face-off drops. An assist and nine ground balls completed a stellar performance from Kerner.

Defensively and in the goal the Crusaders shined, allowing a mere four goals -- only two in the final three periods -- with junior goalie Blaise Dufrain (Manassas, Va./Seton High School) collecting 12 saves. Junior defender Joe Finley (Ojai, Calif.) did an excellent job protecting the Crusader defensive end with four ground balls and many impressive defensive plays that don't show up in the score book.

With the season coming to a close (four games remain), the Crusaders look to continue adding to the win column and build a winning tradition, as they travel to Mount Berry, Ga., for a 1:00 p.m. tilt on Saturday, April 16.
