Men's Lacrosse produces largest scoring output of inaugural season in defeat of Marymount College (Calif.), as freshman attack Tony Lemos nets 11 goals

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team (2-6) could not have concluded their trip to Calif. on a higher note, defeating host Marymount College in convincing fashion, 19-1, on Sunday afternoon.

The Crusaders continued to display rapid improvement in their inaugural year, dominating every facet of the game from start to finish. Dallas edged the Mariners in shots, ground balls and face-offs, eventually sealing the game with 15 unanswered goals after surrendering a goal in the first period.

Freshman attack Tony Lemos (Dana Point, Calif./JSerra H.S.) reinforced his position amongst the leading scorers in the NCAA by netting a season-high 11 goals, including eight out of the Crusaders' first nine.

Joey Mullen's (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood H.S.) first goal of the game in the second quarter. Mullen also had a big day finishing second behind Lemos' 12 point performance with two goals and four assists.

Freshman midfielder Joe Hrbacek (St. Paul, Minn./Trinity School) led the team in assists, serving up helpers to three different teammates in the second half. He also netted a goal.

Freshman attack Brien Lank (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra H.S.) and sophomore attack Stephen Joseph (Orange County, Calif./JSerra H.S.) joined in the assault as well, adding a goal and two assists to each of their totals.

The offensive blitz was not merely enjoyed by midfield and attack, but extended to the defense as freshman defender Mike Franscell (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra H.S.) scored his first two goals of the season, the first of which was assisted by Lemos.

In the faceoff circle, Mullen and senior midfielder Andrew Kent (Keller, Texas/Keller H.S.) provided the Crusaders with an edge in possessions, combining to win 15 out of 23 duels.  Franscell also won a face-off, using a pole, late in the fourth.

On the ground, Dallas was led by sophomore Sam Carter (Chicago, Ill.), Joey Mullen, and junior goalie Blaise Dufrain (Manassas, Va./Seton School), as the trio each collected six ground balls to give Dallas a 53-42 advantage in the category.

In goal, Dufrain acted as a wall, deflecting 10 shots en route to allowing only a single score to the opposition in 60 minutes of action.
