Men's Lacrosse struggles early with Concordia University (Wis.), falls to Falcons

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team (1-6) struggled early containing the Concordia University Falcons (Wis.), and eventually fell, 12-3, on Monday afternoon at Crusader Field.

The game wasn't won in the first period, but six goals by the Falcons proved costly for Dallas. Over the next three periods, the Crusaders held Concordia to their first period output of six goals. Turnovers hurt Dallas, as the Crusaders coughed up 27 in comparison to Concordia's 12.

Freshman attack Tony Lemos (Dana Point, Calif./JSerra H.S.) again led the Dallas offense in scoring, notching his 18th and 19th goals of the year on  man-up advantages in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Sophomore midfielder Stephen Joseph (Orange County, Calif./JSerra H.S.) provided the third goal, with a 4th period score on an assist from freshman midfielder Joe Hrbacek (St. Paul, Minn./Trinity School at River Ridge.) Joseph also assisted on Lemos second goal. Joseph, Lemos, and junior midfielder Chris Kerner (Stevensville, Md.) accounted for six of the Crusaders' eight shots on goal.

Defensively, Kerner won six of 10 face-offs taken while forcing a team-leading three turnovers. Freshman midfielder Joey Mullen (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood H.S.) led Dallas in ground balls, registering four. He was followed by Kerner and freshman midfielder John Owen (Mount Jackson, Va.), whom each collected two.  Goalie Garrett Kochner (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood West H.S.) made 10 saves on the day, surrendering only 12 goals on 34 shots.

The Crusaders will next play, on Sunday, March 27, against Marymount College (Calif.) on the road. First face-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CST.
