Smith Steps Down as Golf Head Coach

IRVING, Texas - Garrett Smith has resigned from his role as the University of Dallas men's and women's golf head coach to pursue new career opportunities outside athletics.

Smith, a 2012 alum of Cameron University, has served as the head coach for UD golf since the spring of 2016, restarting the women's program in the process.  He fielded the first member for the women in the fall of 2018, and by the 2019-20 season had assembled a team of four golfers for the first NCAA Division III team in the program's history.

In the 2018-19 season, Smith led the men's team to a conference title in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship in Blanco, Texas; it was the first and is still the only SCAC championship for UD Athletics, and Smith was named the 2019 SCAC Coach of the Year for his efforts.

"I would like to thank Coach Smith for his tireless efforts and dedication to Crusader athletics over the last seven years," said UD Athletic Director Jarred Samples. "Our golf programs have taken great strides under his leadership, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors."

A nationwide search for his replacement will begin immediately.
