Crusaders Tied 6th after Day One of SCAC Preview

BLANCO, Texas – The first ever SCAC Preview was competed on Monday at Vaaler Creek Golf Club, the site of the 2020 conference championship on April 20-21. One round was completed with a par 72 and 6864 yardage on the course that had landed the University of Dallas men's golf team its first ever conference championship last spring.

The Crusaders did not start this year's first day in the same fashion that had then atop the league standings all three rounds in that historic tournament. They shot 307 (+19) as a team with only one top-ten performance, which was from top golfer on the squad last spring Emilio Montalvo (Mexico City, Mexico) with a 73. The junior and a member of the All-SCAC First Team last season tied eighth and led the squad with five birdies.

Erik Hamm (Brentwood, Tenn.) finished second on UD with four above par at 76. He was also on the All-SCAC First Team last season. Jacob Wade (Magnolia, Texas) and Seth McNeill (Plano, Texas) each carded a 79. McNeill registered one of the eight eagles by the competitors on the day.

Jacob Trevino (Lake Forest, Ill.) made his spring debut in college with an 81. Robby Evans (Flower Mound, Texas) was also in the UD gear today competing as an individual. His score was an 82.

Leading the teams was Trinity University with a 289 (+1). Mary Hardin-Baylor and McMurry University finished off the top two spots with a 291 and 295, respectively. The next SCAC teams to finish were Southwestern University (295) and Texas Lutheran University (301) in fourth and fifth. Dallas matched Schreiner University with a 307. Newcomers University of St. Thomas (307) and Johnson & Wales University (315) rounded out the group standings.

Trinity's Daniel Nunez led the individual places with a 68 (-4). Christian Rodriguez from Southwestern University shot a 70 and then a trio of players tied with a 71. That unit was Brendon Lowrance (McMurry University), DJ Springer (Trinity University), and Ryan Russell (Mary Hardin-Baylor).
