UD Men's Golf Sets 2020 Spring Slate

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's golf team will begin the 2020 portion of its 2019-20 season in March with sights on another strong performance at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship (SCAC). Dallas returns all five golfers that were part of the 2019 team that captured the historic championship at Vaaler Creek Golf Club in Blanco, Texas. Forming that quintet were: Emilio Montalvo (Mexico City, Mexico), Erik Hamm (Brentwood, Tenn.), Jacob Wade (Magnolia, Texas), Seth McNeill (Plano,Texas), and Robby Evans (Flower Mound, Texas). It was the first SCAC Title for a team sport at UD and was the first championship for the men's golf program.

Dallas begins the spring season at Vaaler Creek Golf Club with the SCAC Preview on Mar. 2-3. This will be an opportunity the conference squads get to compete on the course they could be seeing on April 20-21.

The Crusaders also have four other tournaments scheduled that should provide competitive competitions and three that were on the docket last spring. Fellow SCAC opponent, Schreiner University, will host the Schreiner Spring Shootout at Comanche Trace Golf Club on Mar. 9-10. Dallas competed and placed 6th/10th a year ago.

The Crusaders follow with their closest site of competition to campus this season with the Texas Cup (Mar. 21-22) at Watters Creek in Plano, Texas.

The next two tournaments prior to the SCAC Championship are the same from last spring with the Rhodes Spring Collegiate (Apr. 6-7) and The West Cup (Mar. 30-31). Dallas was in Memphis, Tennessee, this past fall but the course location this spring is at Wyndyke Country Club again. The West Cup will be at Chino Hills, California, at the Western Hills Country Club hosted by University of La Verne. The course location will be different this spring from last time the Crusaders visited.

Dallas Head Coach and SCAC Coach of the Year Garrett Smith is looking to build on the team's recent success since taking over in March of 2016. In his first complete season, the golfers began setting team and individual program records. In 2018, the team grabbed its first top-four finish at the SCAC Championship and of course notched its unprecedented finish in 2019.
