Trio of Records set as Men's Golf ends 2 Rounds Tied for 3rd Monday

SEGUIN, Texas – It was a record setting day for the University of Dallas men's golf team, as they played two rounds (36 holes) on Monday in the John Bohmann Memorial Invitational. The Crusaders impressed in the first round as all five golfers – four making collegiate debuts – shot 78 or lower, and compiled a new low round school record as a team with a 288. That mark surpassed the previous one by 20 strokes set at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Fall Invite October 11th, 2016, and put UD in second place behind Concordia University who had hit 286. The Tornados remained the team to beat with the best score in the second round with a 284 to finish at 570.
Emilio Montalvo (Mexico City, Mexico) led Dallas the first round with a 70 and ended the day atop of the program's record book with the lowest two round individual score 144. That eclipsed the most recent record holder and UD Hall of Famer, Dan Cruse, by one stroke set at the Gatesville Invitational in 1959.
Seth McNeill (Plano, Texas) and Thomas Schuberg (Camarillo, Calif.) respectively followed with first round scores 71 and 72. Will Doctor (Houston, Texas) added a 75 while Robby Evans (Flower Mound, Texas) completed the group with a 78.
In the second round, the scores dipped a little for the Crusaders and resulted in a 295 over that set of 18 holes. The overall 583 score in two rounds did shatter the former record set in last year's fall season opener at the Louisiana College Fall Invite September 19th-20th (629).
Dallas is tied for third with host school Texas Lutheran University (296, 287). Three other schools from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) are also present in the tournament. Southwestern University is in second with a 581 (289, 292), and Trinity University follows the top four scores with a 585 (296, 289). Schreiner University is seventh with a 599 (298, 301).
Montalvo secured Dallas' overall best score and is tied for seventh heading into Tuesday. Schuberg checks in 10th in the standings after shooting a 73 that round and 145 overall. Doctor etched the best score in the second round with a 71 for 146 overall and is right behind the team's two-year MVP in 11th.
Concordia's top two golfers Will Arend and Ryan McGinley both lead the individual standings as the only players hitting under par. Arend is -5 with a 137 and McGinley is one under at 141. Colin Uecker from Texas Lutheran and Sutherland Stith from Southwestern are tied third shooting even at 142.
Dallas wraps up the tournament with the third round on the Starcke Park Municipal Course tomorrow.
