Men's Golf Takes 5th at SCAC Championship

BLANCO, Texas – The University of Dallas men's golf team wrapped up the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship on Tuesday with a third round at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club. Dallas held steady in fifth place out of six teams by combining for a 982 overall across 54 holes. The Crusaders turned in a 324 altogether on Tuesday in an 18-hole round to finish fifth in each of the rounds. Centenary College came in behind with a 1,033 overall.

Erik Hamm (Brentwood, Tenn.) led the Crusaders in Tuesday's finale with a 77. Hamm started the back nine well with a team-low 35 (-1 Par). He posted a 236 in his first conference championship and tied 13th in the rankings. Hamm highlighted his rookie season by being named to the All-SCAC Second Team.

Thomas Schuberg (Camarillo, Calif.) was one stroke behind on the day with a 78. He claimed 17th place in the standings after posting a 238. The sophomore led the Crusaders overall in 2016-17 with an average score of 77.11 between 19 rounds in 10 tournaments. He also earned SCAC Golfer of the Week on three occasions between the fall and spring campaigns combined.

Jacob Wade (Magnolia, Texas) rounded out the top three UD golfers with an 83 for consecutive rounds. He garnered a 246 after starting the first round out as the lowest score for the Crusaders (80). Oliver Rivers (Horsham West Sussex, England) jumped out of the gate with a 38 (+2) through his first nine holes. Rivers ended up with an 86.

Southwestern University ended up claiming first as a team with a 912. The Pirates shot a 304 in round three to cap a trio of rounds consistent to a similar mark of 303, 305, and 304, respectively. Trinity University boasted the lowest round score of 303 and that propelled the Tigers two places in the standings for second with a 921 overall. Texas Lutheran University rounded out the top three with a 925 after scoring a 314 Tuesday. Schreiner University was fourth with a 929.

Individually, Southwestern's Tyler Gammill tallied the best mark on the day with a 73 to claim first with a 226 overall. Teammate Matthew Christl finished two strokes down with a 228 for second. It was a big tie for third place, as five golfers etched 230 by the end of the competition.
