Golf in 7th after First Round of Texas Cup

ALLEN, Texas – The University of Dallas men's golf team came sits in seventh place out of 10 after round one of the Texas Cup hosted by University of Texas at Dallas. Playing at Golf Club at Twin Creeks in the local Dallas-Fort Worth area, the Crusaders compiled a 321 on the day.

Concordia University leads all teams with a 295 and Mary Hardin-Baylor is only two strokes behind in second with 297. Schreiner University, a fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponent, rounds out the top three at 306.

Tommy Schuberg (Camarillo, Calif.) posted a 75 to shoot the lowest individual round for Dallas. It is the fourth round out of six this spring in three-time SCAC Golfer of the Week in 2016-17 has garnered that score or better. The sophomore's score positioned him in a tie for eighth in the standings. He also tallied four birdies.

Erik Hamm (Brentwood, Tenn.) followed second within the squad by swinging a 79. Jacob Wade (Magnolia, Texas) hit an 83, while Oliver Rivers (Horsham West Sussex, England) came right behind with an 84. Wade did chip three birdies over the 18-hole course.

Ryan McGinley from Concordia leads all golfers with a 70 and is shooting two under par. Jarrod Brown and Mats Heien are from Mary Hardin-Baylor at 72 and 73. Levi Pettit (UT-Dallas) and Logan Young (Concordia) are also shooting one above par to match top three.

Individual Standings

Dallas wraps up the two-day tournament with the second round tomorrow at 8 a.m. It will be a shotgun start.
